What is the Compliance Graduate Scheme?
M&G Compliance are the team charged with ensuring that M&G acts in compliance with laws and regulations that impact the fund management industry both here and overseas.
The Compliance Department guides M&G’s business units through internal and external change, assisting M&G’s management in ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, business standards, rules of conduct and established industry practices.
The Compliance Graduate Scheme will last 18 months, involving a series of rotations in our different compliance teams. During the programme you will gain exposure to a range of business areas across M&G, working to provide practical guidance and robust oversight and assurance services. Towards the end of the scheme we will work with you to find a permanent role and team that best suits your strengths and interests.
What will you do?
You will be involved in a variety of tasks enabling you to develop strong knowledge of the asset management business and the regulatory environment in which we operate. You will benefit from participating in work where you can make a genuine contribution to the team with an opportunity to convey your own views and ideas. The nature of the work will vary dependent on the team that you are placed in.
You will experience the following types of work:
Advisory: Providing an advisory service to all areas of M&G in relation to the design and effectiveness of regulatory processes, policies, controls, products, services and outcomes for customers.
Document Review: Ensuring marketing materials are fair, clear and not misleading in order to comply with regulatory standards, and participating in the creation and maintenance of legally required product documents.
Strategy and Regulatory Development: Ensuring the Compliance Department has an effective strategy and advising on how current and proposed business activities will be affected by changes in the regulatory and legislative landscape.
Monitoring: Undertaking risk based oversight and assurance activities, through thematic and regular inspection activities and testing, to ensure M&G is conducting its affairs in compliance with relevant financial services rules and regulations.
Policy Work: Maintaining the company’s policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current regulation as well as providing oversight and monitoring adherence to policy requirements
Financial Crime Compliance: Assisting in the operation of key financial crime controls across all M&G’s asset management activities including due diligence and transaction monitoring, anti-bribery and corruption controls, and investigations of fraud and other financial crimes.
Producing Management Information: Delivering insight on new and emerging areas of risk through clear, accurate and timely reporting and analysis.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates with a curious and driven approach to their work and an ability to think analytically and critically to develop solutions. You will show a genuine interest in the financial service industry and the regulations governing it, as well as be comfortable evaluating and interpreting regulations, analysing documents and maintaining processes. It is important that our compliance graduates have a strong ethical code, are able to build and maintain relationships and work effectively as part of a team. You will also have the ability to adapt to new circumstances and be comfortable working with ambiguity, as well as having excellent written and verbal communication skills.
We are looking for candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds and actively recruit from all degree disciplines. It is not necessary to have studied a finance related degree or have relevant work experience, but an interest in financial services is important.
You will possess or be predicted a minimum 2:1 at undergraduate degree from any discipline and have 300 UCAS points or equivalent.
What training and development opportunities are provided?
Throughout the scheme you are given comprehensive training and a vast support network; this includes a four-week asset-management introductory programme and a buddy from a previous cohort. All graduates complete their induction by obtaining the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and will then begin supported study towards a further professional qualification, the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification. All graduates on the Investment Scheme will have training on Excel modelling and on how to conduct credit analysis.
You will receive regular feedback through rotation appraisals and also a psychometrics review, allowing you to continue to develop throughout the programme. Graduates are also able to make the most of the in-house training opportunities available.
Once off the scheme your development will continue to be supported through the Learning & Talent Development Team.
