What is the Operational Risk Graduate Scheme?
Operational Risk is defined as the uncertainty that M&G faces in successfully implementing its strategies and objectives. This includes all internal and external events, acts or omissions that have the potential to threaten the success and survival of M&G.
The Operational Risk Graduate Scheme will last for 18 months. As a new graduate, you will rotate through Operational Risk and Governance and many of the divisional Operational Risk teams at M&G.
The Operational Risk & Governance team (ORG) is responsible for operational risk oversight of M&G, seeking to ensure that the company manages these risks in accordance with the expectations of its clients, shareholder and regulators. The team works closely with management across M&G Business Units and also with Prudential to challenge business units on risk controls and actions and embed the operational risk framework and policies.
The team is then responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of these risk management processes, providing a consolidated view and management information to the M&G Risk Director, M&G Risk and Compliance Committee, M&G Group Risk Committee and Prudential Group Operational Risk Committee.
As all areas of M&G are exposed to operational risk through the very nature of their day-to-day operations, you will be exposed to the wide range of business areas within the organisation. This department is imperative because any control absence or failure associated with processes, people, systems or any external events can result in financial and/or non-financial consequences to the M&G Group.
What will you do?
During the scheme, you will be established into our teams as a key resource and given work where you can make a genuine contribution to the organisation.
Work that previous graduates have been involved in includes:
- Building constructive and supportive working relationships with risk teams and management across the business
- Supporting the review, and challenge business unit reports of risk/control issues and actions
- Supporting the development, communication and embedding of the M&G Group Risk Framework, policy and guidance to ensure this meets the needs of the Group and minimum standards defined by Prudential Group
- Supporting the development and maintenance of risk MI for the M&G Group Risk Committee
- Monitoring industry updates and escalation for review as appropriate
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates who have a proactive and curious approach to learning and display excellent analytical thinking and problem solving skills. You will have an appreciation for why effective risk management matters. You will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
You will possess or have be predicted a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree from any discipline and have 300 UCAS points or equivalent.
What training and development opportunities are provided?
Throughout the scheme you are given comprehensive training and a vast support network; this includes a four-week asset-management introductory programme and a buddy from a previous cohort. All graduates complete their induction by obtaining the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and will then begin supported study towards a further professional qualification, such as the Professional Risk Managers International Association (PRMIA).
You will receive regular feedback through rotation appraisals and also a psychometrics review, allowing you to continue to develop throughout the programme. Graduates are also able to make the most of the in-house training opportunities available.
Once off the scheme your development will continue to be supported through the Learning & Talent Development Team.
